Osman Arof and Kerpan

Kedah's Mentri Besar, Osman was embroiled in two high-profile projects -- the Jerai International Park (JIP) at the foothills of Jerai Peak and a tiger prawn rearing project in Kerpan, in the northern part of the state. It was later revealed that the controversial Kerpan project was joint venture between a state government subsidiary and a subsidiary of the famous Saudi Arabia-based company.

Osman was thenafter “resigned” by party leadership in 1999 after months of endless political bickering that involved a number of UMNO bigwigs in Kuala Lumpur.
